Plot/ Story line:

A rather hilarious and fun movie, but I would say it’s more appropriate for the kids, well perhaps because its adapted from a ‘Dr. Seuss’ book, so it’s totally nonsensical but cute at the same time. And not to forget totally against the Law of Physics as usual. And like what most children books have, there is a sweet moral of the story for this one: A person is a person, no matter how small.

An absolutely touching moral of the story because this moral is clearly showed by how much that speck of dust is important to the people (or rather the Whos of Whoville), because that very speck of dust is their entire world. But to the animals in the Land of Nool, it’s just a speck of dust that seems very meaningless and useless to the animals. In addition, all thanks to JoJo’s YOOP scream, the animals in the Land of Nool could finally hear the loud noises the entire Whoville was trying to make. Seriously sweet and touching family cum children film that teaches the power of unity, friendship, and about how small little things have the potential to make a huge difference.

Animations:

Cute, cuddly, super colourful and completely filled with out-of-the-world objects. I guess in Dr Seuss’ world, anything can exist, including purple trees.

Sound effects:

Sorry to say, but the only song that I actually took note of was the very last scene, when everyone sang ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling’ by REO Speedwagon. I think that song’s rather nice and cheerful, signaling a happy ending. Of course, there is lots of rhyming here and there, but actually I expected more rhymes and songs since it’s from a Dr. Seuss book.

Characters:

I deeply admire Horton’s courage to go against the majority and his sheer determination to get the speck of dust on the clover to a safe place up some mountain. I must say that Horton’s got lots of patience to go through how many million clovers just to find that specific clover with the speck on it.

Horton stood firm in his belief that there were people living on that speck, even though many told him he was insane, thank goodness he stuck to his belief (: Horton’s one good role model for children!

I think JoJo’s one great little guy too. He didn’t speak up much, but I think he contributed the most in the end. And when he FINALLY SPOKE UP AT THE END, I realise what an amazing voice he had! And it was then I realised his voice was Jesse McCartney, then I was like, NO WONDER LA. In fact, throughout the entire movie, the one character that left the greatest impression on me was JoJo. He may be the only son, and he received much pressure from his father to be a Mayor in the future, but he continued doing what he liked to do. He’s one amazing little guy, really. One must watch this movie to understand.

And seriously, the Katie the sheep, is DAMN FREAKY. She’s like, a mini monster in sheep’s clothing. She always go ‘ah’ and looks like she’s staring into thin air for no reason, and ALL OF THE SUDDEN, she does some strange weird action like sticking out her tongue or floating to no where. Seriously, she’s not in a right mind. I have no idea whether the little children watching this movie have any idea how sadistic Katie the sheep is. I’m really quite freaked out by her!

Most memorable line/scene:

“I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant is faithful, one hundred percent” – By Horton the Elephant, I just love his loyalty and responsibility!

I would recommend it to:

Kids and the young at heart! Watch this movie is just for fun!
